CREAD’s (Distance Education Network Consortium) mission is to encourage the development of distance education in the Americas through facilitating the execution of projects that have a distance education component. CREAD is a non profit organization that offers services such as: access to information; training of human resources; technical cooperation; access to other resources and education related products.

Virtual Educa is an initiative by OAS (Organization of American States) and UNED (National Distance Education University of Spain) that was born in 2001. The project is coordinated by INEAM (the Institute of Advanced Studies for the Americas) whose headquarters are located in Miami, Florida.  It is considered a multilateral initiative for the development of innovation projects in the fields of education and the professional formation of human resources.

Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja was founded by the Ecuadorian Marian Association (AME) on May 3, 1971 as an autonomous institution with social and public goals that included teaching; the developing of research with administrative and scientific freedom; and, participating in the development plans of the Republic of Ecuador.  UTPL has been pioneering distance education in Ecuador and Latin America since 1976. Their programs are aligned with world wide distance education guidelines and systems, while offering the possibility to tailoring teaching and learning processes and to promote the formation of independent and self responsibility qualities in students.

CALED (Institute for the Quality Higher Distance Education in Latin America and the Caribbean) was created on October 19, 2005.  It was a result of an International Accreditation and Quality for Higher Education Distance Programs Convention.  Its mission is to contribute to the betterment of distance higher education across the Americas and the Caribbean by providing assistance in all relevant distance education procedures with special focus in self evaluation.
